What to Do When Life Doesn't Make Sense

A gentle reminder that confusion isn't the end of the story.

✦ ✝ ✦

We've all been there — standing in the middle of a season that just doesn't add up. The unanswered prayers, the unexpected turns, the plans that fell apart. If that's where you are today, sweet friend, this one is for you.

1

It's okay to not have all the answers

There is something quietly beautiful about admitting that we don't understand everything. God never asked us to. He simply asked us to trust Him — and trust, by its very nature, means walking forward even when we can't see the whole path.

The moment you stop demanding that life make perfect sense is often the moment you find a deep, inexplicable peace.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
2

Bring every question to God in prayer

You don't have to sort through the confusion alone. God is not intimidated by your questions, your tears, or your frustration. He is a Father who leans in when His children cry out. Prayer isn't a polished performance — it's an honest conversation with the One who already knows your heart.

Tell Him exactly how you feel. He can handle it.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)
3

Remember — His ways are higher than yours

When the puzzle pieces of life don't seem to fit, it helps to remember that we are not seeing the whole picture. God sees the beginning and the end. What looks like a detour to us is very often a divine appointment in His hands.

What He's doing behind the scenes is often far greater than what we can imagine from where we stand.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah 55:8–9 (KJV)
4

Hold tight to what you know is true

In seasons of confusion, anchor yourself to the things that don't change: God is good. He loves you. He has a plan. His word is true. Feelings are real, but they are not always reliable guides. When nothing seems certain, go back to the unshakeable.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Romans 8:28 (KJV)
5

Give yourself grace for the journey

Faith doesn't mean having it all together. It means showing up — even on the hard days — and choosing to believe that God is still at work. Be patient with yourself. Be gentle with your heart. You are not falling apart; you are being held together by grace you may not even see yet.

"He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Isaiah 40:29–31 (KJV)
🕊️

"You don't have to understand the whole journey to trust the Guide. He hasn't lost the map — and He hasn't lost you."

A Prayer for You

When You Need His Peace

Heavenly Father,

I come to You today with a heart that is heavy and a mind full of questions I cannot answer. Life feels uncertain and confusing, and I won't pretend otherwise. But I choose — right here, right now — to trust You anyway.

Forgive me for the moments I've leaned on my own understanding instead of reaching for Your hand. Remind me, Lord, that You are not confused by any of this. You see every piece of my story, and You are weaving it together in ways I cannot yet see.

Give me Your peace — the kind that doesn't depend on circumstances, the kind that passes all understanding. Quiet the anxious thoughts and replace them with faith. Renew my strength. Hold my heart steady when the waves feel high.

I believe You are good. I believe You are near. And I believe this season will not have the final word. Thank You, Lord, for never letting go.

In the precious name of Jesus,

Amen. 🙏

You are so loved. Keep going, dear heart.
