The Potter and the Clay: You Are Being Shaped, Not Broken
Share
Sometimes the pressing, the shaping, the reworking of our lives feels like breaking. The pressure of the potter's hands can feel like pain rather than purpose. But clay does not become a vessel by staying untouched. It becomes beautiful through the hands that shape it — hands that know exactly what the clay is meant to become, even when the clay cannot see the finished form.
Jeremiah 18:6 (KJV) says:
"O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand."
You are not falling apart. You are being formed. What feels like pressure may simply be the hand of a skilled Potter who knows exactly what shape will hold living water, exactly what design will carry glory.
Isaiah 64:8 (KJV) reminds us:
"But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thine hand."
There is such comfort in being "the work of His hand." A potter does not begin a piece he intends to discard. Every turn of the wheel, every press of the thumb, has purpose. Your story — the hard parts included — is being shaped by a Father who is making something beautiful.
If today you feel misshapen, unfinished, or pressed beyond what you expected, remember: the wheel is still turning, and the Potter has not let go.
