Crowned in Strength

A biblical case for women's empowerment, straight from the King James Version

There's a quiet myth that Scripture and strength don't belong in the same sentence when it comes to women. Open the King James Bible and you'll find the opposite — women who judged nations, women who saved their people, women praised for wisdom and might in the same breath as any man in the text.

"Strength and Honour Are Her Clothing"

Proverbs 31 gets reduced sometimes to a checklist, but read the language itself. This woman trades, plants vineyards, manages a household economy, and speaks with wisdom. She isn't praised for her looks — she's praised for her hands.

"She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms."
— Proverbs 31:17, KJV
"Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."
— Proverbs 31:31, KJV

Deborah: Judge, Prophet, Commander

Long before "leadership" was a buzzword, Deborah led a nation. She wasn't a footnote to a male general — the general refused to go to battle without her.

"And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time."
— Judges 4:4, KJV
"If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go."
— Judges 4:8, KJV

Esther: Courage With a Crown

Facing the possible destruction of her people, Esther chose to act, knowing the cost.

"So will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish."
— Esther 4:16, KJV

Ruth: Loyalty That Rewrites a Lineage

Ruth chose loyalty and labor over comfort and safety — and was written into the lineage of David.

"Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God."
— Ruth 1:16, KJV

Made in the Same Image

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
— Genesis 1:27, KJV

Both bear the image of God. Neither is an afterthought.

Christ's Own Pattern

Women were the first witnesses of the resurrection — entrusted with the most important message in human history.

"Go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father."
— John 20:17, KJV

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

"God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

A Prayer for Strength and Purpose

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me in Your image — not as an afterthought, but with purpose, dignity, and strength. Where I have felt small, remind me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Where I have felt afraid, clothe me in the courage You gave Esther. Where I have felt unseen, remind me that You saw Ruth in the field and wrote her into Your story.

Lord, give me a mind sound and unshaken, a spirit not of fear but of power and love. Strengthen my hands for the work You've set before me, and my heart for the battles only You can see. Let my words carry the law of kindness, and let my works speak for themselves.

When I am weary, renew my strength like the eagle's wings. When I am afraid, remind me You are near. And when I finish what You've called me to do, let it be said of me that I feared the Lord above all else — for that is what truly deserves praise.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
